"Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers.

Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood."

(Acts 20:28)

1. The criteria to become an apostle/disciple of Jesus:

    Leave your family:

  • Luke 14:26-27, “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple. 27 And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple."

    Give up everything you have:

  • Luke 14:33, "In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples."

Deny yourself and carry your cross daily:

  • Luke 9:23, “Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” (same as Mark 8:34)

    Hold on Jesus' teachings:

  • John 8:31-32, "To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

2. Servant of God cannot serve both god & money:

  • Luke 16:13, "No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money." (Matthew 6:24)

3. A disciple is not ashamed of the gospel:

  • Romans 1:16, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile."

4. Do not peddle the word of God

  • 2 Corinthians 2:17, "Unlike so many, we do not peddle the words of God for profit."

5. Do not covet anyone's property:

  • Acts 20:33-34, "I have not coveted anyone’s silver or gold or clothing. 34 You yourselves know that these hands of mine have supplied my own needs and the needs of my companions."

6. Preaching the gospel is one main objective of an apostle or disciple:

  • Luke 1:38, "Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.”

7. Preach the gospel free of charge:

  • 1 Corinthians 9:18-19, "What then is my reward? Just this: that in preaching the gospel I may offer it free of charge, and so not make full use of my rights as a preacher of the gospel. Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible."
  • 2 Corinthians 11:7, "Was it a sin for me to lower myself in order to elevate you by preaching the gospel of God to you free of charge?

8. Be humble as an apostle/disciple:

  • Acts 10:25-26, “As Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him and fell at his feet in reverence. 26 But Peter made him get up. “Stand up,” he said, “I am only a man myself.”

9. Help the poor as a apostle/disciple:

  • Acts 9:36, "In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (in Greek her name is Dorcas); she was always doing good and helping the poor."

10. Do not covet anyone’s properties as an apostle/disciple:

  • Acts 20:33-34, "I have not coveted anyone’s silver or gold or clothing. 34 You yourselves know that these hands of mine have supplied my own needs and the needs of my companions."

11. No apostle/disciple should seek his own good, but the good of others:

  • 1 Corinthians 10:23-24, “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but not everything is constructive. 24 No one should seek their own good, but the good of others.”

12. Apostles/Disciples are one in heart and mind:

  • Acts 4:32, “All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had.
  • Acts 4:34-35: “And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need.”

13. The apostles/dsiciples are blessed that they may ask anything in Jesus' name and Hesus will do it:

  • John 14:14, " You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it."

And they are blessed of miraculous healing by placing their hands on the sick people, they will get well.

  • Mark 16:18, "they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”
