"For I have come to turn “‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law— 36 a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’”
2009.09.19: Son Fighting Back Incident
Date / Time: September 19, 2009, 8:10 am
Location: Home, Nepukos, Chuuk
Witnesses: Ryann, Jocko, Annalyn
I just came back home from Philippines when my wife mentioned a couple of times to give strict discipline to our young children (Ryann, Jocko, and Annalyn) to stop them from their daily routine that seemingly developing into vices. Instead of aiming to apply of what my wife implied, I chose to start from the basic: love and care, which I failed to practice from being part of the complicated situation of my family (which later, I realized that it was a divine intervention). For one week, I had good breakfast with the three children, which I set up at 6 A.M. because my wife used to be still on bed asleep. But on September 12, 2009, she woke up and saw that we had breakfast together having a fine interaction, in which I was taking advantage to teach of basic knowledge in Math and Science. Upon seeing us on such situation, she did not go back home and resided in the building beside the office on the second floor.
About few days after, I kept of going every morning to the house, giving warning to my three children to limit from going out and stay late at night outside. I tried to still have time with the three to interact together building stronger family ties by having breakfast with them even in such condition. But on September 19, 2009, Ryann appeared late for the breakfast and lecture, and I lost control and raised my voice scolding him, and he lost his control that he gave me a sudden push that I slid on the floor. Jocko intervened and tried to stop the brother while I was standing and confronting Ryann with a shout of “Go ahead” without intention of beating him back. Somehow, he stopped and appeared apologetic, and got out of the house avoiding me. And this thing ended without any further violence, and I went back to my wife in the other building, my office about 120 feet away.
After two hours, I looked for Ryann and I found him in his bedroom, and told him, “I’m sorry, it’s not your fault.” I usually say to my children that it is not their fault because we are all victims of the very complicated family issues, which later on, I realized that it was a divine intervention. It must happen for a reason for a divine purpose.
First time this thing took place in my life, that a child fighting back physically, pushing me causing me to fall on the floor.
In our family, very seldom that we have a good interaction for stronger family bond because of the complicated situation caused by the events in the past to my wife.
Because of some miracles already took place, being me as the center, I strongly believe that this incident is of divine intervention for a divine message.
Two things to learn from this incident, as expressed in the following Bible verses.
That Jesus talked to his apostles as in this verse:
- Matthew 10:34-36, “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn “‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law— a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’”
And this is the advice of Apostle Paul:
- Ephesians 6:4, "Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”
